La Liga hosts two of the biggest clubs in the world: eternal rivals and European heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid. Founded in 1929, the competition ranks among Europes top-five leagues for the prestigious reputation it has attained over the years. The league is contested among 20 clubs and functions under the double round-robin format where each team plays each other twice in a season.
